Suspicious fires probed in Madison, Jackson counties

There is an ongoing arson investigation in Madison County:  state fire investigators say a fire that was apparently set intentionally destroyed a hay and cattle barn on Abercrombie Circle in Royston. Volunteer firefighters battled the blaze. They say no cattle were injured.

The state Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire that destroyed a $15,000 camper in Jackson County. The fifth wheel camper had been impounded by the Winder Police Department and burned while being held at a facility in Hoschton. There is a reward of up to $10,000 that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

From the office of state Insurance Commissioner and Fire Marshal Ralph Hudgens…

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said an investigator with his office has determined that a fire that destroyed a police impounded camper in Jackson County was intentional set.

The fire, which occurred yesterday around 12:25 a.m., at Specialized Towing and Recovery in Hoschton, Ga., destroyed the 2007 Keystone Fifth Wheel Camper. State fire investigators said the camper was valued at $15,000.

Commissioner Hudgens is asking anyone with information about this fire to call the Georgia Arson Hotline at 1-800-282-5804. Rewards of up to $10,000 are given for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist. Calls are taken 24 hours a day; callers can choose to remain anonymous.

The West Jackson Fire Department is assisting with the investigation.
