Athens man stabbed, killed

Athens-Clarke County Police say they will release today the name of the man stabbed to death this past weekend, allegedly by his roommate: police say it happened at an apartment on East Broad Street, not far from the University of Georgia campus. Investigators have not charged the 21 year-old roommate of the 24 year-old man who was killed, saying it might have been a case of self-defense. The police investigation is ongoing.

From the ACCPD...

On 07/21/2017 at just after 4:00 pm officers with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department were dispatched to 909 East Broad Street in reference to a person down. Upon the first officer's arrival on scene, they located a 24-year-old white male lying on the ground with a stab wound. EMS arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died from his wound. The investigation found that the 24-yearold male was involved in what first started as a verbal argument, over the phone, with his 21-year-old white male roommate. The argument was in reference to the 21-year-old roommate moving out of the apartment with someone else. The victim arrived at the apartment, and soon after a physical altercation began between the two of them. It was during that physical altercation that the victim received the fatal stab wound. No arrests have been made at this time, and the detectives are investigating the possibility of selfdefense. The names of the persons involved will not be released until Monday, to give the next-of-kin time to notify the rest of the family.
