Candidate qualifying concludes

Two more candidates have qualified for special elections that will be held in November: Republicans Houston Gaines and Marcus Wiedower signed up Thursday—Gaines, in House District 117, Wiedower, in 119, state House seats that had been held by Athens state Rep Regina Quick and Oconee County Representative Chuck Williams. The 3-day candidate qualifying period ends at 1 o’clock this afternoon at the Secretary of State’s Office in Atlanta. The special elections will be held on November 7.

Runoffs, if necessary, would be held on December 5.
