A small town Georgia mayor is under investigation for allegedly using tax dollars to pave his mother’s driveway.

Ronnie Maxwell, the mayor of Nicholson in Jackson County, is accused of using $10,000 in SPLOST money to pave the driveway.

Maxwell turned himself in to the GBI, which is investigating the case at the request of the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, according to news reports.

Maxwell claimed the driveway he paved using special purpose local-option sales tax money, is part of a public street called Old James Maxwell Road. However the street does not have any signage, nor does it exist on Google maps, according to a WXIA report.
