GDOT: look for lane closures on I-85

The Georgia DOT says work that started Monday continues for the next ten days, with crews closing north- and south-bound lanes I-85 in Jackson and Franklin counties. The overnight lane closures—scheduled for between 8pm and 6am—come as part of DOT plans to replace five bridges on the I-85 corridor in northeast Georgia.

From the Georgia Dept of Transportation...

On Monday, February 18, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Wednesday, February 28, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Georgia Department of Transportation will close the northbound and southbound lanes on I-85 starting February 18, to allow construction partner Georgia Bridge and Concrete to install bird netting and protective platforms in advance of construction.

Work on the bridge replacement projects will start in May and reconstruct five existing bridges along the I-85 corridor in Franklin and Jackson counties:

  • Plainview Road over I-85
  • Neal Road over I-85
  • Cedar Ridge Road over I-85
  • Old Stagecoach Road over I-85
  • Brown Road over I-85

WHERE: The lanes closures will take place at I-85 at Plainview Road, Neal Road, then Old Stagecoach Road. Crews will only execute one lane closure per bridge at a time, switching from northbound to southbound lanes on consecutive nights. After the northbound work is complete, crews will stage and begin work on the next bridge.

ADVISORY: Exact dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, pay attention and watch for workers.
