Oglethorpe Co Deputy arrested on drug charges

Oglethorpe County Sheriff David Gabriel says one of his deputies has been arrested on drug charges: Corporal John Parker faces a long list of charges after a GBI investigation. Gabriel says it's a probe that was started by police in Comer. Parker is accused of buying drugs, in some cases doing so while he was on duty as a deputy in Oglethorpe County.

A drug investigation has been ongoing for the last few weeks by the Comer Police Department. During that investigation there was a possible involvement of an Oglethorpe County Deputy. The investigation concluded and there was evidence of the deputy buying drugs while on duty to include video, photos and text messages. I asked the GBI to conduct the investigation today.

It concluded with the arrest of former Oglethorpe County Corporal John Parker. He was charged with Violation Oath of Office, Possession of Firearm during Commission of Felony and Purchase of Controlled Substances. I am committed to serving this community with integrity.
