Russell Hall renovation begins

Work on a $44 million renovation of the University of Georgia’s Russell Hall begins today. It’s a 230,000 square-foot renovation project due for completion by start of the fall 2018 semester.

From the University of Georgia master calendar...

Construction for the Russell Hall Renovation will begin on May 22, 2017. This project includes the renovation of the existing 230,000 square foot Russell Hall to provide significantly improved student learning and living environments, including the Russell Academic Center, through modernization of building systems, ADA accessibility, and updated program spaces, student rooms, and bathrooms. The construction site will encompass the area south of Baxter Street sidewalk to the pedestrian walkway from S. Finley Street to Brumby Hall and from the basketball courts between Russell Hall and Brumby Hall to S. Finley Street sidewalk. Main construction entrance to the site will be from the existing driveway off S. Finley Street. Both Baxter Street and S. Finley sidewalks adjoining the site will remain open during construction. A covered walkway will be provided along a portion of the Baxter Street sidewalk, where the sidewalk is closest to the building. The construction is scheduled to be completed for Fall Semester 2018 occupancy.
