Mario Wright has surrendered to Athens-Clarke County Police: Wright was wanted for a shooting that happened earlier this week on Warren Street, a shooting at the home of the 23 year-old victim. Police say that victim was treated at Athens Regional Medical Center for what were described as non life-threatening injuries. The 32 year-old Wright faces a long list of charges that includes aggravated assault. He was booked into the Clarke County jail.

Athens Mayor Nancy Denson says she expects Athens-Clarke County Commissioners to amend the county’s agriculture ordinance and allow for backyard chickens: Denson says she might veto the ordinance if it doesn’t include some protections for neighborhoods that don’t want them.

A fire at a home in Bogart displaces a University of Georgia football coach and his family: there were no injuries in the fire Gus Felder’s house. Felder is on the strength and conditioning staff in the Georgia Bulldog football program. Firefighters say the blaze began in a laundry room and was mostly contained there.

Three football players at North Oconee High School are arrested on assault charges: Jason Fitzpatrick, Samuel Mitchell, and Grant Ogilvie are all 17 years old. They’re accused of grabbing a 14 year-old and dragging him into a bathroom at the school. An Oconee County Sheriff’s Office report says one of them held the younger boy down while the other two beat him. The report says the victim was treated for a concussion at Athens Regional Medical Center.

The Jefferson-based Jackson EMC Foundation awards more grant money to area social service agencies: the Athens-based Food Bank of Northeast Georgia gets $15,000, as does the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County. Three other area agencies will share in $62,000 from the Jackson EMC grants.

There is now arraignment date in Dawson County, where 50 year-old Bo Seppenfield is charged in the murder 37 year-old Brandon Weaver. The Dawson County coach and father was shot and killed last November. Seppenfield and co-defendant Tory Miguez are scheduled to appear in court in Dawsonville next Monday.

Some Newton County residents are upset over proposal to expand a Newton County landfill; they’re voicing those concerns to County Commissioners in Covington.

Police in Dalton say they are reviewing policies and procedures after Dalton drug agents kicked in the door of the wrong house while looking for drug suspects. They had to fork over the money to fix the door.

Sandy Springs police are looking for thieves who stole a U-haul van filled with thousands of dollars worth of handcrafted items.

The funeral for murdered Fulton County Police Officer Terrance Green is scheduled for today in Atlanta. Green was gunned down last week in Fairburn. Law enforcement officers from across the state and around the country are expected to attend today’s service.

Guards manning the gates at Robins Air Force Base in middle Georgia have been told to stop saying "have a blessed day". The Military Religious Freedom Foundation says on its website that an unidentified airman complained this week about the greeting. The group says he objected to the notion, in his words, that a higher power has an influence on how my day should go. Foundation head Mikey Weonstein posted that he talked with the commander of the 78th Air Base wing security forces and was told the guards would be told to say "have a nice day" instead

A bill to reform how the state's private probation system works has cleared the House and is on its way to the Georgia Senate.   A House measure that would allow third-party financing for a solar power installation has cleared a Senate committee vote.
