Good Morning America anchor and UGA alum Amy Robach is the commencement speaker this evening in Athens: she'll address the Class of 2015 in graduation exercises set for 7 o'clock tonight in Sanford Stadium. The University's graduate students hold their commencement exercises this morning, 10 o'clock in Stegeman Coliseum.

It's the legislative measure that was inspired by last year's case of Georgia Bulldog running back Todd Gurley: Governor Nathan Deal has signed the bill that cracks down on memorabilia dealers who entice student-athletes into activities that jeopardize their eligibility. Gurley was suspended four games after taking money to sign autographs for a memorabilia dealer from Rome.

Thursday's National Day of Prayer was observed in Athens and around northeast Georgia: Georgia Bulldog football coach Mark Richt spoke at a prayer service in Athens; the Hall County service drew a large crowd to the square in downtown Gainesville.

Athens-Clarke County Police investigate reports of gunshots at the Rolling Ridge apartments complex on Rolling Ridge Drive. Police say there were no injuries in the Thursday shooting. Residents of the apartment that was targeted tell police the shots were fired by men who knocked on a door and then left the scene in a champagne-colored Nissan Altima.

Today is a deadline day at Athens Tech: last day for payments for upcoming summer semester classes at Athens Technical College.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office is investigating a costly case of vandalism: there is a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in Comer, where somebody caused damage to the city's sewer system. A major sewage leak happened earlier this week.


Five people have been arrested on drug charges in Stephens County: charges for the suspects, arrested in and around Toccoa, include possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Gainesville Police charge a Gainesville man with practicing medicine without a license: they say charges for 48 year-old Jamieson Allen also include sexual battery. Allen is described as a former employee of Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

We have this morning the name of the man whose body was found earlier this week in Hall County: the Hall County Sheriff's Office says Brian Page was 44 years old, from Clermont. His body was found in weeds off Whitmire Road in north Hall this past Tuesday. His body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy. Investigators in the Hall County Sheriff's Office have said there were no obvious indications of foul play.

A 72 year-old man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Gwinnett County: Gwinnett Police say the man barricaded himself in a bathroom after threatening suicide; they say Joseph Roy then opened the door and charged them with a knife. That's when they opened fire. The victim is identified this morning as Joseph Roy.

Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill says he plans to stay on the job, despite the charges that were handed down this week: Hill is facing a misdemeanor reckless conduct charge stemming from this past Sunday's shooting of a 43 year-old realtor who shot at a house in Lawrenceville. The Sheriff says the shooting was accidental. Victim Gwenevere McCord remains hospitalized at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.

A resignation in Decatur: Lee May is stepping down as DeKalb County Commissioner. May has been serving as the County's interim CEO.

DeKalb County Police are investigating: the owner of a DeKalb County smoke shop shot and killed a man he says was trying to rob the store.

Another officer-involved shooting in Atlanta, ending a crime spree that spanned from downtown to Buckhead, and only ended when an officer fired shots at two suspects, who then crashed a stolen van into a garage and tried to run.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed unveils a $590 million budget plan, his largest as Mayor.

Porsche North America officially opens its headquarters in Atlanta, setting up shop at the old Ford Plant near Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

Former State Senator Joey Brush, a Republican from Columbia County, was killed in a Thursday motorcycle crash. Brush was 59 years old. A 49 year-old Augusta woman is charged in the accident: investigators say she ran a stop sign.
