Tamara (Tami) L. Jackson, DNP, FACHE, has been named vice president and chief nursing officer (CNO) at Piedmont Athens Regional. She will actively assume her position on January 3, 2017.

Jackson began her healthcare career as a patient transporter and in 1981 she was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Providence Hospital in Sandusky, Ohio.

In 1985, she joined Firelands Regional Medical Center where she held several positions in the system, including staff nurse in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit/Cardiac Care Unit, coordinator of cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation and patient education, director of education and development as well as nurse recruitment and retention, and CNO in 2002. She later was promoted to senior vice president for operations and CNO.

As the senior vice president and CNO, Jackson utilized her skills and experience within the nursing realm to lead Firelands’ pharmacy team, home health agency, joint-venture surgery center, diagnostic imaging services, cancer care program and clinical laboratory team to national recognition and program certification and recertification.

In 2013, Jackson was recruited to Columbus, Ga as the chief executive officer at both Northside Medical Center and Doctors Specialty Hospitals. Currently, Jackson serves as the system chief nursing officer at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga.

“We’re thrilled to have someone of Tami’s leadership caliber and vast experience joining our organization,” said Dr. Charles Peck, President and CEO of Piedmont Athens Regional. “She brings a wealth of knowledge that will help us continue to provide the highest quality of care to our patients.”

She earned her LPN diploma from Sandusky School of Practical Nursing in 1981, her RN diploma from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Sandusky in 1984, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Bowling Green State University in 1986, a Master of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Ohio in 1998, and in June 2016 earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Toledo.

Jackson currently holds certifications in both the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
