The Georgia DOT opens a new ramp on the Highway 10 Loop, more than six weeks ahead of schedule. The fourth and final ramp on the Loop at Peter Street and Olympic Drive opened to traffic Wednesday afternoon. What has been an intersection is in the final phases of becoming an interchange. The DOT says work on the $14.5 million project is expected to be finished by the end of March.

Economists in the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business are in Macon today: they’re offering their Middle Georgia Economic Outlook in a luncheon at the Macon Centreplex.

Athens-Clarke County Police say a search by a police dog turned up marijuana at Cedar Shoals High School: there have been no arrests so far.

Scam alert in Winder: authorities say someone is calling, claiming to be raising money to buy bullet-proof vests for deputies in the Barrow County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office says the calls are bogus.

Elbert County will use grant money from the Georgia Forestry Commission to buy new equipment for its volunteer firefighters.

Officials with Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center say negotiations are underway for the possible sale of the hospital in Royston to St. Mary’s Healthcare System of Athens. A Ty Cobb spokesman says it could be several months before the sale goes through, if it does at all.

It will mean more than a hundred news jobs for Hall County: Academy Sports says it will be opening a store on Dawsonville Highway in Hall County. No word yet on when.

A grand jury in Tennessee will take up the rape case against A.J. Johnson. The former Gainesville High School football player was a defensive back for the Tennessee Volunteers when he was accused of raping a University of Tennessee coed. The alleged sexual assault is said to have happened during a post-game party in Knoxville.

The Gainesville City Council meets this morning: it’s a 9 o’clock work session at the Administration Building in Gainesville. Council members are kicking off the budget process, hearing from the heads of various city agencies and departments.

Tonight’s Hall County Commission meeting is set for 6:30 at the Hall County Government Center in Gainesville.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office reports an arrest in the bomb threat that forced this week’s evacuation of North Hall High School: 18 year-old Emilio Avolos is a senior at the school. He was booked into the Hall County jail after allegedly writing a threatening note on a bathroom wall.  The school was searched during the Tuesday evacuation; no bombs were found.

There is a new campus police chief for North Georgia Technical College in Clarkesville: veteran lawman Stan Lovell worked most recently as an investigator in the Habersham County District Attorney's Office.

Wednesday was another long day for Gwinnett County firefighters, many of whom spent much of the day at the old Buford Tannery, which went up in flames night-before-last. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Still investigating in Ellijay, where the former CEO of a Gilmer County hospital faces 21 counts of theft by deception: 48 year-old Jeffrey Dunn was head of the North Georgia Medical Center in Ellijay. He's accused of stealing more than a million hospital dollars over a two-year period. Dunn was arrested earlier this month in Cherokee County.

Six months since the trial began with jury selection, prosecutors have rested their case in the Atlanta Public School System cheating trial. Now defense lawyers go to work. A dozen former educators and administrators are accused of changing student answers on standardized tests .

Atlanta-based Delta Airlines says employee profit-sharing will top the $1 billion mark.

Members of the Atlanta City Council met with members of the Georgia House and Senate Wednesday. Education and transportation were items on the agenda.

The inmate who escaped from a prison van in Bartow County has been recaptured in Indiana. 42 year-old Sean Killion made his break last week, overpowering a female guard during a stop in Cartersville. He was en route to Florida to face federal drug charges.

The state House Transportation Committee is expected to today on the revised version of bill designed to fund at least a billion dollars in annual road projects.

Georgia Republican Senator David Perdue says he will not vote for Loretta Lynch, President Obama’s pick to replace Eric Holder as Attorney General.
