The prosecution in the case against accused Athens cop killer Jamie Hood has asked the state Supreme Court to stop jury selection in the trial. Hood is charged with capital murder in the 2011 death of Officer Buddy Christian. Jury selection began on June 1, but the prosecution believes it is too close to Athens, where the crime occurred. That jury selection is set to resume this morning in Elberton. A jury selected in Elbert County will hear the Hood trial in Clarke County Superior Court.

*The Athens-based Georgia Rivers Network is off on its annual river tour, with some 400 paddlers canoeing and kayaking down the Ogeechee River in southeast Georgia. It’s a 7-day, 95-mile excursion.

There is reward money on the table in Hall County: up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the Monday robbery of a Wal Mart store in Oakwood. Three suspects—two men and a woman—were caught on a store surveillance video, swiping a 50-inch flat screen television. It happened Monday.

Habersham County Commissioners, meeting in Clarkesville, approve a County budget that does not increase property taxes. Among the budget highlights: money for nine new public safety positions, including two new workers for the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and three new Habersham County firefighters.

*A Gwinnett County grand jury hands up indictments in the case of a motorcycle rider who was killed in a crash in Buford: charges are for four people who were, according to Gwinnett Police, racing with Brandon Gaylor. The 24 year-old was killed when he wrecked his bike on Duncan Creek Road in Buford, a crash that happened in April of last year.

Burrell Ellis was back on the witness stand Monday, a third straight day of testimony in his corruption retrial: Ellis is the suspended CEO of the DeKalb County government, accused of soliciting campaign contributions from DeKalb County contractors.

*The Danny Ferry era is officially over in Atlanta: the Atlanta Hawks have bought out the remainder of the contract of their former general manager. Ferry had been on leave since last September, after making racially insensitive remarks on a conference call with team owners.

From Atlanta, the report of a Buckhead couple who say they were robbed inside their home and held at gunpoint for more than 90 minutes as two masked men demanded jewelry and cash.

The 20 year-old man accused of driving drunk and causing the crash that killed a man and two children was on probation for DUI at the time of the weekend wreck on I-75: jail without bail for Jorge Solis of Ellenwood. The wreck happened Sunday on 75 near the Fulton-Clayton county line. A 49 year-old man and two children—ages 7 and 8—were killed.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against a McRae man accused in the deaths of an elderly couple looking to buy a classic car through Craigslist. Bud and June Runion of Cobb County were murdered in Telfair County.

An Echols County woman is facing a long list of charges, attempted auto theft among them: investigators in Statenville say Bettie Minfield pulled up to a house, her twin 6 year-olds in the car with her, and tried to steal a truck. She left one of the little boys behind; he was found in the car, in the shade, safe and unharmed. Deputies caught up with her about 10 hours later, finding her and the other brother. He’s also safe; she is in the Echols County jail.
