UGA denies rumors of Fox's imminent firing

Athens, GA - It did not take long for the University of Georgia Athletic Department to issue a statement in response to swirling rumors that men's basketball coach Mark Fox was on the outs.

Yahoo Sports reported last night that a search was already underway for a replacement for Mark Fox, who has lead the Bulldogs to a 18-13 (9-9) record this season, and will enter the SEC Tournament this week as a No. 8 seed.

An email to media this morning from UGA denies the report, however.

"In response to the report by Yahoo Sports, we are NOT in the process of exploring our options to replace Mark Fox. We look forward to Mark leading our program next year and all of our efforts are centered on postseason play. It's unfortunate we need to respond at this time, but it was necessary to quiet these unfounded rumors."

In his seven seasons as Georgia head coach, Fox has taken his teams to two NCAA Tournaments. Indications are he will in fact have another shot next season in Athens.
