A-CC, Oconee Co Commissioners meet

New Development Authority director named in Toccoa

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners are again meeting virtually, a 6 o’clock session that will stream live on the Athens-Clarke County government’s YouTube Channel.

This evening’s meeting of the Oconee County Commission is set for 6 o’clock at the courthouse in Watkinsville. Commissioners have again been asked to postpone a scheduled vote on a rezone that would allow for construction of a massive shopping center off Mars Hill Road, with Publix proposed as the anchor store.

We are today two weeks away from a March 16 sales tax referendum in Oconee County, with voters asked to approve a penny-on-the-dollar tax that would fund construction of a new Dove Creek Middle School and pay for upgrades to seven other schools in Oconee County. There are also SPLOST referendums in Jackson, Elbert, and Franklin counties. Early voting continues through March 12.

The state Environmental Protection Division will gather public input this evening in Danielsville, hearing feedback from Madison County residents on the Georgia Renewable Power company’s plan to release waste water into Beaverdam Creek. A virtual public hearing, to be streamed via Zoom, is set to start at 7 o’clock tonight.

The Madison County Planning and Zoning Board meets this evening in Danielsville, a session that is set to start at 6:30.

Brittany Ivey will be the new head of the Stephens County Development Authority: Ivey has been an assistant director in the Authority in Toccoa since 2016. She will take over for former director Tim Martin, who retired late last year.
