Athens-Clarke County Police investigate another shooting, the third this week in Athens: police say it happened on Carver Drive, where a 16 and a 17 year-old were wounded. Both were taken to an Athens hospital for treatment of what were described as non life-threatening injuries. There is no word from police on suspects.

Shootings Monday injured two men on Chalfton Drive and Jennings Mill Road in Athens.

From the Athens-Clarke Co PD...

On May 24th at approximately 1:25 pm, ACCPD responded to a shooting report near E. Carver Drive and Cone Drive.

Upon arrival, ACCPD located a 17-year-old male subject with a gunshot wound to his leg. A short time later, a 16-year-old male subject drove up to the scene with a gunshot wound to his upper back.

Both subjects were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After investigation, ACCPD determined that a disagreement regarding a denigrating social media post led to the shooting incident. As the 16- and 17-year-old male subjects were riding in a vehicle in the area, they recognized the individual believed to be responsible for the social media post. A confrontation between the parties led to the gunfire and those involved quickly dispersed.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and need the public’s assistance to identify all participants in the shooting. Anyone with information should contact Det. Johnson at 762- 400-7060 or Paul.Johnson@accgov.com
