Chase Street Elementary reverts to distance learning

The Clarke County School District says Chase Street Elementary School will revert to distance learning for the rest of the week: Chase Street suspended in-classroom instruction last Friday after more than one hundred students had to quarantine after exposure to people who had tested positive for coronavirus.

The CCSD says in a letter to parents “we continue to carefully monitor the COVID cases at Chase Street Elementary. While we are thankful there is not yet any conclusive evidence of building spread, we continue to consult with district leaders and our local health officials in an effort to minimize the potential for future spread.”

COVID 19 cases in Georgia continue to hit new lows as the state’s vaccine rollout continues. According to the most recent data from the Georgia Department of Public Health, the seven-day rolling average of new coronavirus cases in the state dipped to fewer than 765 per day over the weekend. That is the lowest number since June 12 of last year.

The Publix grocery store chain is expanding its policy of accepting walk-in COVID vaccinations in four more Southern states. Starting today, customers in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Virginia will be able to receive either the Moderna or the Johnson and Johnson vaccine at stores in those states. Company officials say vaccination services are available to those 18 and older.
