Early voting ends in Athens, election day is Tuesday

Today is the last day for early voting in Athens and around the state: the three-week window for advance voting ends at close of business today; election day is next Tuesday.

The Atlanta-based 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a federal judge’s ruling that clears the way for next week’s District Attorney’s election: Deborah Gonzalez, Brian Patterson, and James Chafin are running in a special election to fill the post that opened with this year’s retirement of former DA Ken Mauldin. The winner will be District Attorney in a judicial circuit in Clarke and Oconee counties.

Georgia Senator David Perdue says he will not take part in what had been scheduled as a Sunday debate with Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff, a faceoff that was to have aired on Channel 2.

President Trump will come to northwest Georgia Sunday. He’ll be hosting a rally in Rome.
