Early voting ends in Watkinsville Council contest

Today marks the end of three weeks of early voting in Watkinsville, where Chuck Garrett and Carolyn Maultsby are running to fill the unexpired term of Post One Watkinsville City Councilman Brian Brodrick.

Brodrick, a 17-year veteran of the Watkinsville Council, is now the acting Mayor in Watkinsville, taking over for Bob Smith, who resigned in March. He is effectively running unopposed in this month’s special election: attorney Peter Steckel announced as a candidate but then withdrew. Votes cast for him will not be counted.

The Garrett-Maultsby Council contest will be decided next Tuesday.

Barrow County businessman Matt Richards joins the growing list of candidates for Congress: the Bethlehem Republican says he will run to replace 10th District Congressman Jody Hice, who is leaving the House to wage a 2022 primary challenge to Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
