ACCPD probes reported rape of UGA student

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department investigates a reported rape: a 22 year-old University of Georgia student says she was sexually assaulted in the area of Church Street and Dearing Street in Athens. She describes her attacker as a black male, about 5-10, with what she says was an athletic build.

ACCPD is investigating a Rape which occurred earlier this morning in the area of Dearing Street and Church Street. According to ACCPD’s initial investigation, a 22-year old female reported that she was raped by a black male with an athletic build. The suspect is about 5’ 10” with a dark complexion and short hair. The suspect was wearing dark pants and a grey hoody. The incident occurred at approximately 3:00am. The victim did not know the suspect.

ACCPD encourages individuals to consider these safety tips: * Seek a safe ride home. * If walking home, stay with a group and stay in well-lit areas. * Always be aware of your surroundings and call 9-1-1 if you see someone or something suspicious.
