The Athens-Clarke County Sustainability Office, in conjunction with Southface Institute, is conducting a series of five virtual town hall meetings in April for the Athens-Clarke County Clean and Renewable Energy Campaign.

On May 21, 2019, the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government’s (ACCGov) Mayor and Commission unanimously voted to adopt a resolution to commit to the following as part of the Clean and Renewable Energy Campaign:

  • By 2035: 100% of energy needs of ACCGov will be obtained from clean and renewable sources produced on-or-for ACCGov properties.
  • By 2035: 100% of electricity needs of the Athens-Clarke County community will be obtained from 100% clean and renewable sources.
  • By 2050: ACCGov will decrease its use of third-party renewable energy certificates to no more than 40% of its total energy portfolio.
  • By 2050: All energy needs for the Athens-Clarke County community will be met by 100% clean and renewable sources.

The informational town hall meetings as part of the Clean and Renewable Energy Campaign are open to all Athens-Clarke County residents. In the meetings, participants will learn about ACCGov’s current clean and renewable energy goals and how energy burden affects the community. Questions and feedback are encouraged during the sessions.

The Clean and Renewable Energy Campaign Town Hall events will take place:

  • Thursday, April 8 - 6:30-8:30 PM
  • Saturday, April 10 - 1:30-3:30 PM
  • Monday, April 19 - 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
  • Thursday, April 22 - 6:30-8:30 PM
  • Tuesday, April 27 - 11:30-1:30 PM

Residents can take part in the town hall meetings by registering through the Webex Events system at www.accgov.com/100 or watch videos of the town halls live or on-demand through the ACCGov YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/accgov.

In addition to the town hall meetings, the Sustainability Office has created an online survey to allow residents to provide feedback on the Clean and Renewable Energy Campaign. The survey is available to both participants in the town hall meetings and to those who cannot attend. A link to the survey is available at www.accgov.com/100.
