Another pedestrian killed in Athens accident

A truck driver from Washington state has been identified as the man killed in Monday morning's vehicle vs pedestrian accident on Newton Bridge Road, a wreck that closed a stretch of Newton Bridge for well into Monday afternoon: Ghebremehari Welday was 34 years old, from Seattle. He was outside his truck when he was hit by a car.

Welday is the second pedestrian fatality since Saturday in Athens: 52 year-old Willie Sims was struck and killed while walking along Lexington Road, hit by a vehicle near Winterville Road. Athens-Clarke County Police are investigating both cases.
