Athens Sears to close in the fall

Sears says it will be closing its store on Atlanta Highway in Athens in late October. The announcement comes in a report that says more than two dozen other Sears and Kmart stores around the country will also go out of business later this year.

“We have made the difficult but necessary decision to close 26 large-format Sears and Kmart stores in late October,” the company statement said, noting the Sears Auto Centers at many of the stores will close in late August.
