Barnett Shoals Road reconfiguration headlines busy local government agenda

A public forum on plans for the reconfiguration of Barnett Shoals Road is on tap for today, underway at 5 o'clock this afternoon at the fire station on Barnett Shoals. City Hall says it's an informational session about temporary lane striping that was installed recently on Barnett Shoals between Security Circle and Whitehall Road. Staff will be on hand to talk about the changes and to solicit input from citizens.

There is tax talk this evening in Athens: a meeting of the citizens advisory committee that is overseeing work on projects funded by the transportation sales tax is set for 6:30 at City Hall.

There is an afternoon meeting of the University of Georgia’s Educational Affairs Committee: it’s a 3:30 session at New College on Herty Drive.

This evening's meeting of the Madison County Commission is set for 6 o'clock at the Government Complex in Danielsville. There could be more Commission talk about plans for County funding for a new fire station for the Madison County Volunteer Fire Department, a facility proposed for Neese-Commerce Road. 

Barrow County gets a $415,000 federal grant, money that will be used to upgrade tools used by first responders in Winder. The money comes from FEMA. 

The City Council in Winder is scheduled to meet one week from today to take up a developer's plan to build a residential community on about 70 acres near the intersections of Highways 53 and 11 in Barrow County.

A Hall County Commission work session is on tap for today, underway at 3 o’clock this afternoon at the Government Center in Gainesville. Commissioners are talking about possible upgrades to Hall County’s two dozen severe weather warning sirens.
