Barrow heads for runoff; Gaines, Wiedower wins confirmed

Former Athens-Clarke County Commissioner John Barrow is ramping up for a runoff: Democrat Barrow will take on Johns Creek Republican Brad Raffensperger on December 4; the winner will be Secretary of State. Neither Barrow nor Raffensperger finished above 50 percent in this week's election; the Libertarian candidate got more than two percent of the vote.

Absentee and provisional ballots counted Wednesday confirmed the Tuesday election wins of Houston Gaines and Marcus Wiedower: the two Republicans knocked off the two House Democrats who won last year's special elections. Deborah Gonzalez and Jonathon Wallace are leaving after serving just one regular session in the Georgia legislature.

There are still no clear winners in two metro Atlanta congressional contests: they are still counting the votes in Districts 6 and 7, where Republican Karen Handel is trailing and fellow Republican Woodall is leading in close races with their Democratic challengers.
