Body found in park in Hoschton, vandalism reported in Commerce

There is an ongoing police investigation in Jackson County, where a body was found in a park. The GBI says the body was discovered in a creek at Sells Mill Park in Hoschton. There was no immediate word from investigators on whether foul play was involved in the person's death; the body has been taken to a GBI crime lab for an autopsy. 

Police are investigating reports of vandalism in Commerce: Commerce Police and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office are investigating damage to homes, cars, and businesses caused by someone who is using a BB gun. 

A Gainesville woman gets a 25-year prison sentence, her punishment for pistol-whipping a Gainesville police officer. Alondro Rodriguez was sentenced in Hall County Superior Court for the incident that happened last November outside a fast-food restaurant in Gainesville.

A 31 year-old Gainesville man is in the Hall County jail, accused of holding a gun to the head of his estranged wife: the woman was not injured; there is a long list of felony charges for Abraham Medellin-Soria, with counts that included battery and aggravated assault.

A 74 year-old woman in Cherokee County is charged with killing her 76 year-old husband: Betty Sue Parton is in the Cherokee County jail, facing charges that include murder and elder abuse in the death of David Parton. Investigators say she first told Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies her husband had fallen and hit his head; they now say he died of blunt force trauma at the couple’s home in Ball Ground.
