Deal, CEOs meet to try to resolve insurance impasse

Governor Nathan Deal is meeting today with officials with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Piedmont Healthcare, hoping to jumpstart the talks between the two. The two sides have deadlocked on a new contract, but said last week they were making progress in the talks.

Today’s meeting will be closely watched at the University of Georgia, where thousands of faculty and staff are in health insurance coverage limbo: those UGA staffers are, like hundreds of thousands of other state employees, now out of network with Piedmont doctors and facilities because of a contract dispute between Piedmont and Blue Cross. The Governor’s office says the meeting is designed to give Deal an update on negotiations.
