Diamond Dogs in SRP Park to face Citadel

Ninth-ranked Georgia faces The Citadel Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C.

The Bulldogs (33-12) will be looking to bounce back after enduring their first four-game losing streak of the year when it faces The Citadel (10-32). Georgia leads the all-time series 2-1 including a 9-4 win in Charleston last year.

Georgia will start junior right-hander Logan Moody (0-0, 2.30 ERA). It will be his second career start for the native of LaGrange, the first coming at Kennesaw State on April 3rd when he got a no decision (2.1 IP, 4H, 3R, 3BB, 4K). His last appearance came at SunTrust Park versus No. 11 Ga. Tech on Apr. 23. He provided 3.1 scoreless innings with one walk and four strikeouts. The Citadel will counter with freshman right-hander Jordan Flanders (0-4, 7.06 ERA). A native of North Augusta, S.C, he will be making his fourth start and 12th appearance of the year.

Currently, Georgia’s ERA is 3.26 (12th in NCAA) and that still ranks as one of the best in school history. Georgia’s record for lowest ERA in a season is 2.97 by the 1958 club and the next best is 3.26 by the 1967 squad. Opponents are hitting only .197 against the Bulldogs.

Georgia is batting .261 with a .372 on base percentage and a .407 slugging percentage. The Bulldogs played the final two games of the Mississippi State series without junior third baseman Aaron Schunk due to a sore Achilles. He saw his consecutive games started streak end at 140. He is day-to-day. The Bulldogs are on pace to set a Fielding Percentage school record for the second year in a row. Currently, Georgia is fielding .981 (8th in NCAA). Last year, the Bulldogs established the fielding mark at .979.

Senior second baseman LJ Talley continues to lead the offense with a team-best .339 average, eight home runs and a team-high 35 RBI. Junior centerfielder Tucker Maxwell leads the club with nine home runs and ranks third in the SEC in stolen bases with a team best 19.

SRP Park is home of the Augusta GreenJackets, the South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants.

“We’re excited to come back to the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) and play again at SRP Park,” said Georgia’s Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin. “We enjoyed opening the new stadium last season and know it’s a great place to watch a ball game. We’re looking forward to playing The Citadel and hope the stands are filled with fans wearing red and black.”

Last April, Georgia defeated No. 8 Clemson 6-3 at SRP Park in what was essentially a home game for the Tigers that attracted a crowd of 5,801. Advances sales for this year’s Georgia game at SRP Park have eclipsed 4,000. Reserved seats are $13 with General Admission/Standing Room Only tickets are $10.
