Dirty water from Lake Lanier?

People in south Hall County are complaining about their drinking water. It is water that is pulled from Lake Lanier. Officials in Gainesville say the water is treated properly and meets standards for safe drinking water. Those drinking it says it tastes and smells like dirt.

From the Ga News Network…

The problem is in south Hall County, where water is pulled from Lake Lanier. Gainesville water officials tell Channel Two that the water is treated properly and meets standards for very safe drinking water. Except it not only tastes like dirt, but smells like it too. So what's going on? It's a natural process called lake turnover. The surface water of Lanier stays at the top during warm summer months. But when temperatures change in the fall, that water cools off and becomes more dense. So it sinks. And the dirty smell and taste stays, despite tests that show it's perfectly safe.
