GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Fire officials are investigating a deadly overnight house fire in a Gwinnett County neighborhood.
Firefighters were called out to Whitney Park Drive in Duluth just before 1 a.m. Tuesday and when they arrived, they said there were heavy flames and smoke coming from the 2-story home.

An elderly man and a caretaker met the firefighters outside the home and told them that an elderly woman was trapped inside.
Fire officials said crews encountered intense flames in the back bedroom where they rescued the woman. She was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The caretaker was evaluated and released at the scene by paramedics. There were no other injuries reported.
The exact cause of the fire is under active investigation. The fire caused heavy damage to the home.
