Forums on legislative session, SPLOST, schools today in Athens

Members of the local legislative delegation will recap the session that ended last week: they’ll speak in a Rotary Club forum organized by the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce. It’s set for noon at the Classic Center.

A public forum on Athens’ upcoming sales tax referendum is set for 5:30 this afternoon at the Government Building on Dougherty Street. Athens-Clarke County voters will go to the polls in November to settle the fate of the proposed penny-on-the-dollar tax. The meeting comes as Athens-Clarke County Commissioners are working to finalize the list of projects that will be funded if the referendum passes.

The executive director of the Georgia Public Policy Foundation is in Athens today: Kyle Wingfield (pictured above) is heading up a forum on choice in public education. He’ll be joined by UGA Economist Jeffrey Dorman and others in a 5 o’clock forum at the Hilton Garden Inn.
