Forums on Firefly Trail tonight, Thursday

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department hosts two open house information sessions this week, the first tonight and the second on Thursday: both are focusing on the latest plans for the Firefly Trail. This evening’s forum is set for 6 o’clock at the Spring Valley Road offices of the Athens-Clarke County Streets and Drainage Department.

From the Athens-Clarke Co government website…

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host public information open houses on Tuesday, October 22 and Thursday October 24 regarding proposed plans for the extension of the Firefly Trail from Hancock Road to Moores Grove Road in Winterville. This connection traverses mostly along the original Athens Branch of the Georgia Railroad bed, generally following along Spring Valley Road until turning toward Winterville and connecting to the section of the Firefly Trail currently under construction.

The open houses will take place 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Athens-Clarke County Streets & Drainage Department Training Room at 605 Spring Valley Road.

The design team will provide information regarding plans for the Firefly Trail at this drop-in informational open house. The proposed route will be available for viewing. Staff will discuss the project progress to date and future steps in the process.

This project is part of Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) 2018 Program Referendum, which included the Firefly Trail Project (Project #06). Athens-Clarke County voters approved this project on November 7, 2017. The project includes the land acquisition, design, and construction of additional length of the Firefly Trail from the end of the work completed under the SPLOST 2011 Program.
