Ga DPH updates COVID counts in Clarke, Oconee counties

Athens has added 480 confirmed cases of coronavirus over the past two weeks: the latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Public Health show 1,741 cases of COVID 19 in Clarke County since tracking began five months ago. There have been 17 coronavirus deaths in Athens, with 15 reported in Oconee County.

There have been 396 cases in Oconee County, with 98 of those reported over the past two weeks.

Governor Brian Kemp continues to fight against face mask mandates by local governments. When he extended his coronavirus emergency order on Friday, the Governor re-emphasized a ban on local face mask mandates that more than a dozen Georgia cities have passed. Kemp and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms are negotiating a settlement of the governor’s lawsuit against the city’s face mask mandate.

The Georgia Department of Public Health says the state added more than 2,200 new cases of coronavirus over the past twenty-four hours, but only two deaths: there have been more than 195,000 cases since tracking began in March, with 3,842 deaths from COVID 19 in Georgia.
