A new proposal in one Georgia city suggests arming its school security guards.
The policy would allow the Superintendent of the Gainesville School System to appoint volunteers to carry weapons on campuses. Each person would be subject to annual background checks and undergo training.
The proposal was heard for the first time during this week’s school board meeting. Superintendent Jeremy Williams says feedback from the community has been good.
A second reading is scheduled next month before a decision is made.
