GDOT looks for input on plans for Highway 316

The Georgia Department of Transportation is looking for public input on plans to upgrade Georgia Highway 316 between State Route 20 in Gwinnett County and the Georgia Highway 10 Loop in Athens. The DOT says “the primary challenges to be addressed are high crash rates and congestion. The projects are proposed to reduce potential crash frequency and severity and improve operations and mobility along the corridor.”

From the Ga DOT…

The SR 316 Bundle 1 Design-Build projects which includes interchange improvements at SR 316 at CR 329/Barber Creek Road (P.I. No. 0013910) and SR 316 at SR 211/Bethlehem Road (P.I. No. 0010352) in Barrow County is seeking public feedback on the latest proposed design changes to these interchanges. Changes have been made to the preliminary concept designs since the virtual Public Information Open House (PIOH) that was held in April 2022.  The following design changes have occurred:

SR 316 at SR 211/Bethlehem Road (P.I. No. 0010352)

The proposed Statham Drive extension to Bethlehem Road has been removed

SR 316 at CR 329/Barber Creek Road (P.I. No. 0013910)

The proposed grade-separated diamond interchange at CR 329/Barber Creek Road will now include a single-lane roundabout at the top of entrance/exit ramps

Ventura Street access to CR 329/Barber Creek Road has been removed and dead ended with a cul-de-sac

We encourage you to review the following updated project materials for the virtual PIOH before submitting comment on the projects: Project PIOH Handout, updated Concept Layout Displays, and watch the Visualization Videos.  All comments will be accepted until Thursday, December 22, 2022.
