Many Georgia leaders issued statements Wednesday with reactions to the death of Evangelist Billy Graham. Graham died at his home on the morning of Feb. 21 at the age of 99. “Rosalynn and I are deeply saddened to learn of the death of The Reverend Billy Graham,” a statement from Former President Jimmy Carter said. “Tirelessly spreading a message of fellowship and hope, he shaped the spiritual lives of tens of millions of people worldwide. Broad-minded, forgiving and humble in his treatment of others, he exemplified the life of Jesus Christ by constantly reaching out for opportunities to serve. He had an enormous influence on my own spiritual life, and I was pleased to count Reverend Graham among my advisors and friends.”

Many remarked on Graham’s life via Twitter:
Reverend Billy Graham was truly “America’s pastor.” His work and dedication to Christ are an inspiration to many and will not soon be forgotten. Bonnie and I join the nation in lifting up the entire Graham family in prayer during this very difficult time.

Graham was a longtime American Christian Evangelist who traveled across the country, preaching to more than 210 million people across the globe, including Georgia, in groundbreaking crusades. Two of the crusades were in Atlanta in 1973 and 1994. President Jimmy Carter attended the 1994 crusade at the Georgia Dome.
