Girl sick at school dance, drink might have been spiked

Investigators in the Hall County Sheriff’s Office say they are still looking into an incident reported last weekend, when a 15 year-old girl became sick during a dance at Flowery Branch High School, possibly from something that was placed in her drink. The teenager was hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery.

From the Hall County Sheriff’s Office…

Investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office are searching for answers after a girl became sick at a high school dance on Saturday, October 6, possibly from a substance put in her drink without her knowledge.

The 15-year-old victim was attending the homecoming dance at Flowery Branch High School when she became sick. Her date notified the victim’s mother of her condition. The girl’s mother responded to the dance and took her daughter to the hospital. The victim’s date and his mother followed them to the hospital and remained with them. Investigators do not consider the victim’s date a suspect in the case.

The preliminary investigation revealed the girl had consumed at least one cup of lemonade before getting sick. She reportedly received the drink in a hallway or classroom, but has no recollection of who gave it to her.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the dance and found no evidence of anyone tampering with the lemonade served at the event. The drink was dispensed out of large coolers or jugs with sealed lids. The concessions area was monitored by a teacher for the duration of the event.

The victim suffered from side effects including headaches, amnesia, skin rash and vomiting. The student is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. The Hall County School District is working in cooperation with law enforcement on the case.
