Labor Dept: Athens hits all-time low in unemployment

The state Labor Department says Athens has recorded an all-time low unemployment rate. The April jobless level in Athens stood at 2 percent, down from 2.9 percent in March.

“As employers continue to fill their vacancies with qualified job seekers, we are encouraged to see many Georgians eager to return to the workforce,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “This dedication on the part of both employer and job seeker is what has enabled us to fill the demand for goods and services in record numbers across the state.”

The labor force decreased in Athens by 291 and ended the month with 103,382. That number is up 3,494 when compared to April of 2021.

Athens finished the month with 101,266 employed residents. That number increased by 637 over the month and is up by 4,660 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Athens ended April with 101,400 jobs, an all-time high. That number increased by 900 from March to April and increased by 6,200 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims were down by 7 percent in Athens in April. When compared to last April, claims were down by about 89 percent.
