Local briefs: Authority meetings in Athens, candidates forum in Watkinsville

Authority meetings are on tap for today in Athens: the Athens Airport Authority meets at 3 o’clock in the Flight Center at Athens-Ben Epps Airport, while the Classic Center Authority convenes at 4 at the Classic Center in downtown Athens.

Candidates for seats on the Oconee County Board of Education faced off in a forum last night in Watkinsville: with six weeks to go before election day, Post 2 Republican incumbent Amy Parrish is challenged by independent Ryan Repetske, while in Post 3 independent Melissa Eagling is running against Republican Ryan Hammock. Three weeks of early voting begin on October 17, twenty days from today.

Tonight’s Barrow County Commission meeting is set for 6 o’clock at the Historic Courthouse in Winder. And Oconee County Commissioners meet this evening. It’s a 6 o’clock session at the courthouse in Watkinsville.

A teenager from Paulding County is killed in a crash on I-85 in Franklin County: the Georgia State Patrol says 19 year-old James Hardin of Hiram was the only casualty of the wreck that happened Monday morning.

A Franklin County grand jury has handed up indictments in the case of a teenager accused of bringing a gun to Franklin County High School: the arrest was made earlier this month. A half-dozen schools in Hall County are among those moving football games from Friday night to Thursday in anticipation of heavy rains from the remnants of Hurricane Ian: the powerful storm is expected to dump rain on much of Georgia over the weekend.
