Local briefs include sustainability roundtable in Athens, town hall in Watkinsville

The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Recycling Division hosts this morning’s Sustainability Roundtable: it Is an 8 til 9:30 session at the Jittery Joe’s on Fritz Mar Lane in Athens.

Oconee County Commissioners held last night their final quarterly town hall meeting of the year, answering questions at the Civic Center in Watkinsville.

The state Department of Education releases the latest high school graduation rate, and the news is again good in Oconee County: Oconee County has, in this year’s report, a 97.9 percent graduation rate for students at Oconee and North Oconee High Schools.

A man from Barrow County is killed in a vehicle vs pedestrian accident in Forsyth County. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office says 76 year-old Salvador Ramirez of Auburn was struck by a truck. The truck driver is not expected to face charges in the accident.

There is still no word on the name of the person who was killed in this week’s house fire in Dawson County. The blaze burned a home near Dawsonville.
