Local briefs: survey in Athens, grants for sheriff’s offices in Banks, Stephens counties

The Athens-Clarke County government has, on its website, the link to a survey that will be on-line through June 9. Athens’ City Hall is looking for input on several issues in this year’s Athens-Clarke County Community Survey.

There is an afternoon meeting at UGA: the University of Georgia’s Staff Council convenes yet another virtual session at 2:30 today.

There is state grant money for sheriff’s deputies in Homer, more than $230 thousand dollars the Banks County Sheriff’s Office will use for law enforcement training. The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office gets $57 thousand from the state Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.

There is a pending closure in Gainesville: Brenau University says its child development center will cease operations.

There will be a series of public hearings starting next week in Gainesville, where Hall County is planning to shut down its Gainesville Connection public transit route that has operated for the past twenty years. Gainesville Connection services is scheduled to be shut down after June 30.

The Georgia DOT says drivers can look for single-lane traffic on State Route 369 over Lake Lanier: the DOT is working on the bridge that links Forsyth and Hall counties. It is paving and grading work that is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
