Local government briefs: CCSD preps elementary schools, local GOP Chair resigns

Hall Co Commissioners consider sewer rate hikes

The Clarke County School District continues to make elementary schools ready for the return to in-classroom instruction: Clarke County’s first and second graders are due to return to schools next Monday, the first day of March. Most schools in Athens have been closed since March of last year, with most classes being taught on-line because of concerns about coronavirus.

There is more talk about a busy Athens roadway this morning: a virtual meeting of the Prince Avenue Corridor Improvements User Group gets underway at 11 o’clock.

There is a resignation announcement in Watkinsville, where Steve Strickland says he is stepping down as Chair of the Oconee County Republican Party. Strickland says he will campaign for leadership post in the state GOP.

Hall County Commissioners are looking at a plan that would raise County sewer rates for residential and commercial customers: a Commission decision is expected at tomorrow night’s meeting in Gainesville.
