Local government notes: community survey in Athens, special election in Watkinsville

The Athens-Clarke County government has, on its website, the link to a survey that will be on-line through June 9. City Hall is looking for input on several issues in this year’s Athens-Clarke County Community Survey.

From the Athens-Clarke Co government website…

Thank you for participating in the Athens-Clarke County 2021 Community Survey! Please share this link with your friends and family to ensure participation by a wide variety of residents. Your responses are confidential and no identifying information will be shared.

Please note that once you have answered the questions, in order to submit your response you will be required to provide your email and zip code. This lets us be sure we are hearing from each person only once and see which respondents live inside or outside of the county. Additionally, the County hopes to continually engage with the community and periodically ask for your input on pressing topics, new ideas and initiatives, or other important issues.

An environmental monitoring company is keeping an eye on creeks off Highway 29 North in Athens, where more than one million gallons of raw sewage spilled late last month: notices have been posted, warning against fishing and swimming in Sandy Creek Old Trail Lake and the West Fork Trail Creek.

There is a job opening in Athens: Steve Decker has retired as director of the Athens-Clarke County Transportation and Public Works Department; his retirement is effective today.

A second week of early voting begins today in Watkinsville, where Carolyn Maultsby and Chuck Garrett are looking to fill an open seat on the Watkinsville City Council: election day is June 15.
