Local government notes: election preps in DA’s runoff, Commission meeting in Danielsville

Today is runoff election eve in Athens and Oconee County: voters will go to the polls tomorrow to settle the contest between Democrat Deborah Gonzalez and non-partisan candidate James Chafin. The winner will be the District Attorney in the Western Judicial Circuit, which covers Clarke and Oconee counties. Polls open at 7 o’clock Tuesday morning.

This evening’s Madison County Commission session is set for 6 o’clock at the Madison County Government Complex in Danielsville.

A dispute over pay led to a lawsuit in Barrow County. Now there is word of a settlement between the City of Statham and former Statham Police Officer John Wood.

From Gainesville comes word that Hall County is calling a halt to jury trials and other court proceedings: the move comes amid a spike in coronavirus cases in Hall County.
