Local government notes include last week of early voting

There is one last week of early voting in the 9th Congressional District runoff, the race that pits Rabun County state Rep Matt Gurtler against Athens gun shop owner Andrew Clyde. The winner will likely replace Hall County Republican Doug Collins in the US House. Collins is leaving Congress to run for US Senate. The early voting that ends Friday takes place in Athens at the Elections Office on Washington Street. Runoff election day is one week from tomorrow.

There is an afternoon meeting of the Board of Directors for the Sandy Creek Nature Center: it’s a 5:30 session at the Nature Center on Old Commerce Road in Athens.

Madison County Commissioners are returning to an on-line meeting format: tonight’s virtual Madison County Commission session is set for 6 o’clock.

Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed has been sworn in as the new president of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association. Speed takes over for Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jerrard.
