Local government notes include meeting of Athens, Winterville Authority

A virtual meeting of the Joint Development Authority of the Athens-Clarke County Government and the City of Winterville is set for 5:30 this afternoon: the session will stream live on the Athens-Clarke County government’s YouTube Channel.

There is federal money for Madison County: the city of Danielsville will use federal grant funding to upgrade its sewer system. It’s money that could enable Danielsville to double its sewage capacity.

The City Council in Winder has signed off on a plan for a new walking and biking trail that will link downtown Winder with Fort Yargo State Park.

The Jackson County School Board is looking at the possibility of adding another school, a facility that would be built in western Jackson County. The fourth school—if constructed—would help ease what the School Board says is overcrowding in Gum Springs, West Jackson, and North Jackson elementary schools.

Gainesville says it is eliminating, effective immediately, parallel and angled parking along a busy street in downtown Gainesville: the removal of parking spaces on a stretch of Spring Street in Gainesville comes as part of the city’s downtown streetscapes improvement project.
