Local government notes include TSPLOST session at Lay Park

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department is hosting the first of three workshops on project proposals for an upcoming transportation sales tax referendum: it’s set for 6 o’clock this evening at Lay Park. Others are scheduled for Saturday and August 7, also at Lay Park. The TSPLOST project proposals are due in August.

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department is coordinating three TSPLOST public workshops. Staff will assist and provide insight for those who are developing TSPLOST project proposals that are due in August.

The workshops are scheduled for Thursday, July 22 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Saturday, July 24 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and Saturday, August 7 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. All sessions take place in the multi-purpose room at Lay Park located at 297 Hoyt Street. Meetings will be in person and a virtual option is available via WebEx.

Central Services, Transportation and Public Works, and other ACCGov department staff will be in attendance.

There is an afternoon meeting of the Athens-Clarke County Historic Preservation Commission, underway at 5:30 at the Government Building on Dougherty Street.

We are now 13 days away from the August 4 start of the new school year in Athens: the Clarke County School Board’s Fiscal Responsibility Committee meets at 4:30 this afternoon.

Franklin County Commissioners are looking at a plan to use federal dollars to pay for upgrades to broadband: Franklin County is getting more than $4 million from the American Rescue Plan.

There is a new County Clerk in Habersham County: Brandalin Carnes had been working as Deputy Clerk. Before that, she was a Medicaid case worker in North Carolina.
