Local government notes: School Supt out, new City Council member in

Clarke County School Board president Lakeisha Gantt says the Board is negotiating the departure of Clarke County School Superintendent Dr. Demond Means (pictured above), who will be leaving after just over two years on the job. The announcement came at the end of Tuesday’s special called meeting of the Clarke County Board of Education.

Laura Minish is the winner of Tuesday’s runoff election in Comer: Minish defeated Tommy Appling to win the District 3 seat on the Comer City Council.

Jackson County Commissioners are looking at a recommendation from the Jackson County Planning Commission, which has given tentative approval to a developer’s plans for a 200-lot subdivision on PJ Roberts Road in Jackson County.

The US Forest Service holds this evening the second of three meetings set for this week, all of which are focusing on plans for the Foothills Landscape Project: tonight’s 6 o’clock meeting is in Clayton; Thursday’s session is at the Lumpkin County Parks and Recreation headquarters in Dahlonega. The Forest Service’s Foothills Landscape Project is designed to maintain and improve watershed and ecological conditions on more than 150,000 acres that stretch across the Chattahoochee National Forest.
