Local students nominated to U.S. service academies

10th District Congressman Jody Hice has nominated thirty high school students to US service academies. Among them is Jamsen Mendoza at Clarke Central High School, McRae Claas at Oconee County High School, and Jay Hamil at North Oconee.

Based upon the recommendation of an independent academy advisory board, Congressman Hice nominated the following candidates to at least one of the United States Service Academies:

  1. Jason Beasley (McDonough, GA), Ola High School
  1. Jasmine Brown (McDonough, GA), Union Grove High School – received and accepted an offer of appointment from the U.S. Naval Academy 
  1. Anna Caldwell (Milledgeville, GA), Georgia Military Prep School – received an offer of appointment from the U.S. Air Force Academy 
  1. Spencer Carroll (Buford, GA), Mill Creek High School
  1. McCrae Claas (Watkinsville, GA), Oconee County High School
  1. Ashley Clegg (Monroe, GA), Social Circle High School
  1. Garrett Dalley (Dacula, GA), Riverside Military Academy
  1. Jonathan Daniel (Eatonton, GA), EBLA Academy
  1. Justin Dygert (Evans, GA), Greenbrier High School
  1. Jacqueline Ellison (Greensboro, GA), Lake Oconee Academy
  1. Grant Fink (McDonough, GA), Union Grove High School
  1. Jason "Jay" Hamil (Statham, GA), North Oconee High School – received an offer of appointment from the U.S. Naval Academy

  1. Gordon "Tucker" Keadle (Auburn, GA), Apalachee High School – received an offer of appointment from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

Students who attend a U.S. Service Academy commit to serving at least five years in their respective military branch upon graduation. Securing a nomination is a required step in the Academy application process. Ultimately, the Academies make the final decision on who receives an appointment of admission.
