Megabus suspends bus service to Athens

It is another casualty of coronavirus in Athens: Megabus says it is canceling, for now, its bus service to and from Athens. 

UGA says the annual University of Georgia Alumni Weekend, which had been scheduled to start today, is canceled because of coronavirus. 

A group of volunteers working in Athens plans to deliver today the first batch of 11 masks to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center: upwards of 100 people have been working to fill an order of more than 400 of the face masks people will wear to protect against coronavirus. 

The Clarke County School Board's Policy Committee is meeting this afternoon: the School District says that because of concerns about coronavirus, the only public access to the meeting will be on the School Board's YouTube channel.

A new coronavirus measure kicked in Wednesday in Hall County: Hall County Commissioners have adopted a resolution closing all in-person dining, including patio dining, at bars and restaurants in Hall County. A similar ordinance is in effect in Commerce. 

A Hall County Commission meeting scheduled for tonight in Gainesville has been canceled. 

The Hall County jail is releasing non-violent inmates, about 200 so far from the lockup in Gainesville: it is another move in the effort to contain coronavirus.
