NE Ga police blotter: armed robbery in Elbert Co, stabbing in Dawson Co

Police in Elberton were, at last report, trying to track down a suspect in the reported robbery of a pharmacy in Elberton: a pharmacy clerk says the man passed a note claiming to have a gun, though one was never seen. Cash was stolen; no injuries were reported.

There is now an attempted murder charge for a man from Hall County, accused of cutting another man’s throat in Dawson County: the suspect Brandon Seay is 26 years old, from Gainesville. The 57 year-old victim was, at last report, still hospitalized.

Robert Long was in court in Canton Tuesday, pleading guilty to the murders of four people who were shot and killed in spas in Cherokee County on March 16. His guilty pleas come as part of a plea bargain that lands him a sentence of life in prison. The 22 year-old Long is still facing the possibility of a death sentence in Fulton County: he’s also charged with killing four people at spas in Atlanta.

Two Atlanta-area law enforcement leaders are among the seven finalists to be the next police chief in Austin Texas. Mirtha Ramos is less than two years into her tenure as chief of the DeKalb County Police Department. Celeste Murphy has been a deputy chief of the Atlanta Police Department since January of last year. The City Manager in Austin says the plan is to name a new chief by the end of next month.
